Does anyone else get equivalent thrills from the planning and anticipation of a trip as from the trip itself? Count me as one, and I’m enjoying prep for a personal trip to Mongolia next month.

We are definitely pushing the possibilities with exploring options for C and my Great Mongolian Adventure. We hope to be there at the end of October, which is already cold and snowy and past the tourist season, but that’s when there’s a school holiday, so… Lucky we are both hankering after some cold weather. (I know, be careful what you wish for, right?!)

Top of mind

Me: Hope we stay on the horses, it’s a long way to nearest hospital… Hope we stay on the camels, it’s actually further to fall than the horse… Must remember to buy travel insurance… Must pack alternate food options for someone if nomad food proves too much for a picky palate… Propose two alternate itineraries and then can’t decide which of these options is the better one…

C: Do you think the shoulder straps on my snow pants will extend far enough to be comfortable?… Do you think we will come across a set of those yak horns? I’d like to get a pair so that one day if I smith myself a helm I can attach them. .. I bet I could beat one of those Mongolian boys in wrestling… (Me: That’s a definite no!)

WARNING: non-humble brag ahead

My trusty partner in adventure has just abrogated decision making duty between two options saying, “Mama, you decide, because whatever you think is best is going to be amazing. They are both amazing and I know we’ll have the best time!”

I wish I had more confidence in my ability to make the right choice!
